Social events - Leeds Festival Chorus

The Chorus runs a full programme of social events for the benefit of members and friends and to raise additional funds for our music making. Past events include wine evenings, garden parties, fireworks evenings, plant and produce sales and talks about music.

Messiah Party 2011

A great time was had by all at a party on the a Messiah theme (nothing to do with our December concert obviously!). Everybody entered into the spirit of the event, arriving in appropriate historical attire, dressed as a Messiah number or, in some cases, as something completely different. Once drinks were in hand, they were set tasks including a Handel-based quiz and mass-participation Pictionary game. Just to stir up the competitive instinct, the party-goers were also separated into teams and instructed to make a sheep out of toilet rolls, cotton wool, card, string and the like in a very short timescale. Most of the teams used one of their number as a model (on the whole, not flattering!) but the winning team applied some lateral thinking to come up with a fully articulated puppet on a string. The motto of FRASC is “Never Knowingly Underfed” and true to form, appetites were satiated with a splendid supper on a middle eastern theme.

The annual Kinder-talk! Geoff Kinder’s talk is titled Bohemian Rhapsody and will be on the theme of Dvorak, to put his Stabat Mater into the context of his other music, and C20 successors Martinu (Field Mass) and Janacek (Glagolitic Mass). OK, strictly speaking only 2 of them were Bohemian as Janacek was from Moravia, but why spoil a snappy title? As is the norm, a gorgeous supper will be provided by Kinder Catering (aka Pam Kinder) and FRASC. Venue: Chris and Peter Farmer’s in Bramhope.
