Rowena Macdonald

  Monday, 3 February 2020

We are very sorry to announce that one of our longest‑standing members, Rowena Macdonald, died on 25th January after suffering a major stroke.

Rowena had been in the Chorus for almost forty years, and her death will leave a massive hole.  She was well‑known to Chorus members as our friendly but firm authority and guide on good Italian pronunciation, and hence as a major contributor to the clear diction and fine sound for which the Chorus is known. She had also taken her share of administrative duties by looking after the Friends of the Chorus.

We send to Bob and the rest of Rowena’s family our deepest sympathy.

Simon gave a warm tribute to Rowena at the beginning of the Wednesday rehearsal after her death.  A number of Chorus members formed a choir to sing at her memorial service, held at the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady and All Saints, Otley, on Friday, 7th February.
